We find ourselves in a very unusual time. The emergence of COVID-19 means we must be prepared for changes in our daily lives while making sure we live them. Youth sports is an important part of growing up but not at the expense of attending school or our family’s health. Our first concern is for the health and wellbeing of our players.
Shrewsbury Youth Soccer is looking to offer a best possible program for the Fall 2020 while meeting all Massachusetts State, Massachusetts Youth Soccer, and Shrewsbury Town Guidelines.
Just what choices are available for the Fall 2020 Soccer season can only be finalized as data becomes available and the guidelines are updated. Which choices can be made will also depend greatly on the level of participation. (links to the current guidelines are found below. Please read carefully, including coach and spectator guidance)
We are considering several options, such as, but not limited to:
Close to Normal: Following all MA State, MAYSL and Shrewsbury Town guidelines, offer our usual Travel and Intown Team play. Travel Teams for Grade 3/4 (U10), Grade 5/6 (U12) and Grade 7/8 (U14), InTown for grade Pre-K – Grade 3/4.
Intown Only: All age groups would play other Shrewsbury Only Teams.
Skills Training Only: Teams would meet on prepared soccer fields for Skill Trainings and Small Side Game Play
Given the timing and dynamic nature of the current environment, we are opening Registration for the Fall 2020 Season to help determine which options may be offered. We are taking this step now to enable proper planning and preparation.
Additional expenses such as Travel Uniforms will be deferred until we are able to determine that they are necessary.
A request for credit applied to a future registration or refund check will be honored for one week after the finalized 2020 Fall season is announced minus a registration transaction fee ($10)
We know that the level of uncertainty is a challenge. Without final guidelines and a direct measure of the number of registrations we cannot guarantee the activities available. Without planning and preparation, we will not have time take advantage of the opportunities when they become clear.
