MTOC Champions

Each Spring, at the conclusion of the travel season, D1 and D2 teams in Groups Grade 5/6 and older can qualify for the MAYS playoffs based on their regular season record.  If that team wins the MAYS playoff or receives a Wild Card, they go on to the state tournament (MTOC) to play the league champions from around the state.  It is a tremendous accomplishment to qualify for this tournament.  Shrewsbury Youth Soccer was fortunate to have 2 teams qualify for MTOC this year.

We had the Girls Grades 9/10/11 team qualify for MTOC.  This team is coached by Jay McLaughlin and Ed Sipowicz.  They won the MAYS Championship by beating Northbridge last Sunday.  At MTOC, they continued their great play by coming in 1st place in their pool.  In the semi-final game, they topped a very talented team from Malden by a score of 3-2.  The tournament culminated in a thrilling 1-0 victory over Dartmouth. As a result, these ladies have brought SYS its first state champion in many years.  Well done!!

We also had the Girls Grade 5/6 team coached by Tom McCabe and Alison Salvucci qualified and played very well in their 3 games in pool play.  The team was a little shorthanded due to injuries but still were very competitive and represented SYS well at MTOC.  Great job ladies... your future is very bright!

Both teams represented SYS very well this weekend.  I saw many commonalities between the two teams: a ton of hard work, determination, teamwork, great sportsmanship, and lots of FUN!  Congratulations to both teams.

A special thanks to all of the coaches, volunteers, and parents that support all of our teams through out the year.

Best,
